Cape Cod Hearing Center, in spite of Covid precautions, showed us caring and thorough service!  She made an appointment for me to come to the parking lot and gave me several options of available time slots.  That was very considerate because I don't drive and I have to rely on other people to bring me when it is convenient for them.  The receptionist, Jan, was very flexible.  Jan came out to the car with a mask and gloves.  She carried a sturdy lined box for me to put my precious hearing aids in for her to clean.  She was back out to the parking lot in no time.  She cleared out the wax, skin flakes, and vacuumed my hearing aids!  The moment I put them back on, I could hear clearly again!  I was hesitant to have them cleaned because of the epidemic so by the time I went there they really needed service.  Thank you so much.  They are highly professional, extremely understanding and throrough.  Thank you Cape Cod Hearing Center!  They are an A+ practice.  Thank you again! - Elizabeth Gulezian

Hearing Loss and Diabeties

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has found that hearing loss is twice as common in people with diabetes as it is in those who don’t have the disease. Also, of the 79 million adults thought to have pre-diabetes, the rate of hearing loss is 30% higher than in those with normal blood sugar.

How does diabetes contribute to hearing loss?

Hearing depends on small blood vessels and nerves in the inner ear. Researchers believe that, over time, high blood glucose levels can damage these vessels and nerves, diminishing the ability to hear.

Hearing loss due to diabetes is typically a high frequency sensorineural (nerve) hearing loss which can be treated successfully with hearing aids. The earlier a hearing loss is diagnosed the earlier it can be treated.

Studies have shown that untreated hearing loss can have a negative impact on quality of life. Thus for diabetics, the sooner the hearing loss is treated the better.

If you or a loved one has diabetes and have not had a hearing test, make an appointment today.
